well here's the photoshop translation for adding glitter borders.
the same steps work for glitter text as well.

first of all. choose a glitter fill : \
i picked one from this site.
http://www.blackheartedwolf.com/glitter2.html
right click and save which ever one that amuses you : )

open imageready.
then from the menu: file > open > and open your glitter fill that you just saved.

this is how your layers palette should look in imageready.
and how your animation palette will look.
and now click on the "Edit in Photoshop" button circled in red.

**glitter fill should open in photoshop now**

tada! its in photoshop.
if you hadn't open in imageready first, it wouldn't have shown three layers in the layer palette.
so yeah, thats why we had to open it there... im bored : \

edit > define pattern ... click click click

then make layer 2 visible / layer 3 invisible
edit > define pattern again

do the same with layer 1 & hide layer 2
edit > define pattern for the last time

kkk. now you can close that glitter fill image.
you do not need to save changes.

Now.... take whatever picture you want to add the glitter border to.
copy it / paste it

I copied and pasted this picture by cristina.
for this pic... file > new | 300 width X 300 height settings will do | edit > paste !!

rightclick > blending options ; )
click on stroke to see its settings > put these settings
(step 4 in the pic: choose your first glitter fill pattern that we defined earlier)

Layer > Duplicate Layer
Right Click > Blending Options
Click on Stroke to see its settings > leave these settings
but choose your second glitter fill pattern that we defined earlier!

Duplicate Layer again
Blending Options again
Stroke settings again / Choose third fill pattern

Edit in ImageReady
The Image will open in ImageReady now.

On the Animation Palette; Choose > Make Frames From Layers
Your Palette should look like this. Delete the first white Frame by choosing > Delete Frame

Press play to view it!
File > Save OPTIMIZED As > Choose: .GIF Format

Final Product!

Photoshop Tutorials

Leave Color

Copyright 2006 © Heron Productions
http://www.heron-productions.com/leavecolor.html

------------>>

1. Color Range
There are different ways to select the area of one color. On the Johnny Depp photo I used Select -> Color Range.

Choose color by clicking on the photo with the eyedropper, then move the Fuzziness indicator left or right to define the color range. For selection preview I chose the White Matte.

2. Quick Mask

First create a copy of the background with right click -> Duplicate Layer.

Now create a quick mask by clicking on the Quick Mask icon (see the red arrow on the right picture).

Masks let you isolate and protect areas of an image as you apply color changes, filters, or other effects to the rest of the image. When you select part of an image, the area that is not selected is "masked" or protected from editing. You can also use masks for complex image editing such as gradually applying color or filter effects to an image.

3. Gradient Map
Select the background layer.

Go to Image -> Adjustments -> Gradient Map and select the Black, White gradient (see image on the right)

Now you may notice that some parts of the photo stayed colored even though you did not want them to. Simply use the Eraser Tool and delete those parts from the mask (select the Background Copy in the layer window while erasing). In pictures below you can see red on Johnny Depp's lips and neck (left image) and how I erased it (right image)
